A Macabre Message from John Wilkes Booth?

Booth plotting murder?

Booth plotting murder?

Found in “The Wit & Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln” by James C. Humes:
A short time after Lincoln was assassinated, a macabre message scratched on a hotel window in Meadville, Pennsylvania, was reported to authorites:
‘Abe Lincoln departed this life Aug 13, 1864 by the effects of poison’
It was then learned that John Wilkes Booth had stayed overnight on that date in the northwestern Pennsylvania town, where he was looking after some of his oil investments.
