A mention of an American artist: John Steuart Curry

Book Illustration by artist John Steuart Curry

The Literary Works of Abraham Lincoln published by The Heritage Press (1942) contains works by artist John Steuart Curry to compliment the text. Curry is an artist of note. However, he is all but forgotten today. His best known work is the mural of John Brown entitled Tragic Prelude.  That particular work was featured on an album cover by the rock group Kansas. Remember that one? Incidently, Curry was born in Kansas. Many of his paintings have to do with Kansas-the prairies, and other scenes. When The Heritage Club asked him to provide the pictures for Lincoln’s Literary Works, he created a series that included the pictures on this blog posting. Also, please note that the works presented here are only parts of the entire drawings-the camera having certain limitations.
