Abraham Lincoln’s body was moved 17 times since being placed in the receiving vault at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
His casket was opened 5 times: December 21, 1865, September 19, 1871, October 9, 1874, April 14, 1887, and September 26, 1901.
There was an attempt to steal Lincoln’s corpse on November 7, 1876 by Terrance Mullen and Jack Hughes.
Lincoln’s body is enclosed in a lead casket surrounded by a cedar case.
The Lincoln funeral train traveled 1,162 miles from Washington D.C. through Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
Lincoln’s estate at time of his death was valued at $110,294.62.
Lincoln is buried 10 feet below ground. The vault is steel and concrete and is hermetically sealed, topped with 20 inches of concrete.
Lincoln was the first deceased president to rest in state in the United States Capitol Rotunda.
