Dateline: Nov. 5, 2011-The Boys in Blue march in the Detroit Veterans Day Parade

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Dept. of Michigan.
Mr. Lincoln’s boys were on the march again today-well-the Sons of his Union veterans were on the march-that is. Detroit, Michigan held it’s annual Veteran’s Day parade downtown. The sky was blue and there was no rain! Multiple organizations were represented, including re-enacting units. Down Woodward Avenue they went, keeping in-step to the beat of the drummer and listening to the shouting commands given by the officer in charge. Below are some of the sights of the day for the SUV members:

At the ceremony, Detroit Veteran's Day 2011

Brothers R. Baughn & P. Carlisle of Israel B. Richardson Camp # 2, SUVCW, Department of MI.

CC B. Nash with drummer & others.

After the parade was over, a twenty-something young man came up to me and asked: “What is a veteran?” He wasn’t joking. Apparently, he had no idea what a veteran was. I gave him the answer, but walked away quite amazed that he didn’t know. I turned to my brothers walking with me and remarked: “That’s why we’re out here guys.” They answered in agreement: “Oh, yeah.”
