First Day of Issue Lincoln Envelope

I am not a collector of first day of issue envelopes but I own a few them. I love the artwork on them! The Lincoln envelope is nicely done. Without knowing the history of the issue- I suspect the timing of it may have had something to do with the Gettysburg Address. Notice the date on the envelope is November 19! Also, it was generated from Springfield, Illinois. Of course, the use of envelopes and “snail-mail” is a dying practice. The modern electronic ways of communicating have pretty much killed the method of writing letters. I think Lincoln would have loved today’s technology. Yes, I think he would have enjoyed texting. Hopefully, he wouldn’t have been one to text and drive while buggy driving…
