Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Camp 2, Department of Michigan observed Memorial Day in Birmingham, Michigan-followed by a second observance in Pontiac at the grave of General Israel B. Richardson.. The day was warm and sunny-and it didn’t rain. The air was filled with patriotic music and speeches. Highlights included a reading of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and a speech on the origins of Memorial Day. It was great to see the crowds brave the warm weather waving flags and enjoying the programs. Many veterans were in attendance and recognized for their service. This Lincoln blog salutes all of our nation’s veterans living and dead. Without them there would be no free United States. God bless them all!
