Greetings from Springfield, Illinois!

Greetings from Springfield, Illinois! For all lovers of Abraham Lincoln, it doesn’t get any better than this. Springfield is the “Mecca” for Lincoln fans. I’m here at the Crown Plaza for the annual banquet of the Abraham Lincoln Association.
As soon as I entered the Crown Plaza (with tons of luggage in hand), my eyes beheld a beautiful sight- a Lincoln statue! (see below): “Now this town knows how to celebrate Lincoln!”

The statue is entitled “On the Road to Greatness.” Lincoln is beardless. He is holding the Holy Bible in is left hand. He is reaching out with his right hand to accept flowers from a little girl. There are two girls who have approached him. He is looking down at them from his great height (he was 6′ 4″). He has a slight smile on his face. He is obviously enjoying the moment. I think it is entirely appropriate that he is holding a Bible (as his future greatness is considered). Mr. Lincoln knew the Bible well. He often quoted it. His writings during his Presidency reflect much Biblical language and style.

There is a plaque near the sculpture. It states the following:
“Original Bronze Sculpture

Dixie and Lincoln Highways
Chicago Heights, Il

Meeting this beautiful work of art upon my entrance to the hotel made my day! I knew I had truly arrived in the city of Lincoln.
