Four “Lincoln-nerds”- Joe DiCola, Gene Cook Jr., Bill Nash, and Rob Wick (members of the online Lincoln Discussion Symposium) met together in Springfield, Illinois for a weekend of “all things Lincoln.” Spouses Joy Cook, Donna Nash, and Cheryl Wick joined the crew (and kept the “nerds” in line). The “usual” spots in Springfield were visited-like the Lincoln tomb and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. And, of course, one cannot make a visit to the area without touring Lincoln’s New Salem State Park. But the group also managed to take in a couple of unusual spots, like the Old Concord Cemetery (where Ann Rutledge was first laid to rest) and the Farmer’s Point Cemetery (resting place of Mentor Graham). Joe DiCola served as the host and tour-guide of the outing. He set the itinerary and shared his extensive knowledge at every site. In fact, it was noticed that when he started talking, a crowd frequently gathered eager to hear him. Over the next few months, AbesBlogCabin will feature some of the pictures taken at the various places. Stay tuned!
