This great book…is the best gift God has given man…But for it we could not know right from wrong.

Take all of this book upon reason that you can, and the balance on faith, and you will live and die a happier man.



I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside me.



The purposes of the Almighty are perfect and must prevail though we for many months may fail to accurately perceive them in advance.



I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right and part company with him when he goes wrong.


Wealth is a superfluity of things we don’t need.



Some things that are legally right are not necessarily morally right.
