As I ponder this city I’m amazed. Lincoln is everywhere. Yes, I know I’m a tourist. Yes, I know the city makes bundles of money from all things Lincoln. Still, the obvious love for Lincoln is here. I sitting at a table underneath a portrait of Lincoln.
Billboards and posters are all over the streets:
There are Lincoln impersonators walking around town. There’s the museums and all the Lincoln sites. Downtown Springfield has established a walking tour that one can take (without a human guide) highlighting places concerning Lincoln-his home, law office, etc. There are markers placed for the walkers to read giving valuable and interesting information. Most of the sites within buildings do not charge for tours. Even touring Lincoln ‘s home has no charge. Actually, Springfield does not look “touristy” to me. The downtown area is tasteful. There doesn’t seem to be any cheap looking gift shops (ever been to Gatlinburg?). I will be making the usual stops-the museums, the Lincoln tomb, and the Lincoln home. I’ll take in the sights and see what else I can discover. There’s a Marching Band going down the street. Yes, a Marching Band. There was also a gentleman who passed by looking exactly like Abe Lincoln. Hmm… maybe it was?
