With all honor and respect

With all honor and respect

Every April around the 15th of the month there is a solemn ceremony at the tomb of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield to commemorate his death and pay respect to him. The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, and many other patriotic organizations, are represented there to take part in the ceremony. There are also, of course, “special” guests-and many others who simply want to be there.  Part of the ceremony involves laying wreaths at the base of the tomb. There is also a keynote speaker. I attended the ceremony in 2007 representing the General Israel B. Richardson Camp (#2), Department of Michigan, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. It was a cold and rainy day. My hands were nearly froze! However, our spirits were not dampened. It was a great honor to be there and look forward to attending again sometime. The ceremony has been taking place now for over fifty years. If you ever have a chance to attend it you won’t be disappointed. Dress warm!
