The GAR Building in Detroit to be restored!

A media production firm called Mindfield is restoring the GAR Building on Grand River Ave. in Detroit!  Purchased from the City of Detroit last November, the planners are looking to open it in 2013. Much like what the building was used for in the 1980’s (before it closed down), there will be retail business inside. But there is also included a planned memorial to Civil War veterans! According to Kevin Lindsey, PCC (current Officer in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War), the SUVCW will have fellow member Bruce Butgereit, PDC serve as a consultant to the project.

This is exciting news. The building has been idle far too long. Now if only the Borglum sculpture of Abraham Lincoln in downtown Detroit could be restored as well!

The restoration has started!
