What has Obama done to be compared to Abe Lincoln?

Posted by: Yahoo Answer   in Politics

chris asked:

Obama has done nothing but win an election. Why is he being compared to Abe Lincoln, and looked at as a great president when he is just now becoming president? He is a man not a God and he hasn’t done anything yet. Respect and Recognition should be earned, and he hasn’t done anything.

It’s too early to formulate what President Obama’s legacy may turn out to be. Obama is a great admirer of Lincoln. You’re correct in that respect must be earned. We’ll see…

He is tall and slender. Beyond that there is no comparison.

Obama hitched his star to the most respected President in US history. It might be said he got in on Lincoln’s coattails. It carries an enormous weight for Obama-to be compared to Abe.

Obama personally likes Lincoln’s ideas, so he brings them up a lot. No one is trying to say that Obama is Lincoln though.

The comparisons you are hearing between him and Lincoln are not exactly comparing their accomplishments. People are drawing comparisons because Lincoln is the champion of ending slavery, and Obama is the first African-American president. They see Obama as bringing Lincoln’s accomplishments full-circle.

Through blind faith the Democrats have invested all their hope in an individual who has never done anything noteworthy or who they never even heard of before this election started. Without a belief in God or country, a single person is all they have.

To Susan:

Liking Lincoln’s ideas has nothing to do with being Lincoln. Obama will be nothing like Lincoln. Blacks should be thankful for Lincoln. If it wasn’t for him, they will still be in the fields.

One day the South will rise again!! This could be it.

I wonder if he agrees with these Lincoln quotes…

“I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality.

“I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

“If I could save the union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that. What I do about slavery and the colored race I do because I believe it helps to save the union.”

Well, they used the same bible in their inauguration. It will all stop from there.

He has done nothing. NYT actually ran a story yesterday about how Lincoln wouldn’t even have supported Obama’s presidency. He didn’t think blacks should be slaves, be he also didn’t think that they were his equal.

It’s just more media crap trying to build Barry Hussein up.

Well, he’s tall and slim built, likes Abe’s ideas, probably will steal some of his lines, but I can’t really think of anything that comes close to comparing the two.

Obama can be accurately compared to Lincoln because of the devisive politics rampant in the country at the time of their prsidencies. Both men tried to be concilliatory but to no avail. The radical rightwing south would not compromise and chose to disregard the constitution (requiring all signing states to be part of the union in perpetuity for evermore). They attempted to bring down the U.S Government.
Again, the radical rightwing, is attempting to bring down the government at any cost. This time they call it class warfare. Obama is in the thick of it and only time will tell what the outcome will be’
